Are Xbox 360 Failure Rates Improving?

The latest survey of warranty claims by six-teen thousand game-console owners found that Xbox 360s failed for 24 percent of their owners, compared to 10 percent of PlayStation 3s and less than  three percent of Nintendo Wii consoles.

The survey was carried out by Squaretrade which looked into failure rates between the main consoles. The results examined usage from the first 2 years of ownership and only included normal usage faults.

The results concluded that the Xbox 360 failed nearly one in four times. What’s interesting to note is that 88 percent of failure rates in the survey were as a result of the Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death, leaving the error rate at just under 12 percent when excluding the RROD, not bad if Microsoft can sort out the 3 Red Lights.

Another interesting point to note is that since the 3rd quarter of 2008 failure rates have decreased. Good news for those of you who’ve brought the console box fresh more recently.
